This was a pretty intense couple of pages. Lots of faces. All very significant.

This blog tracks my journey through the huge, throbbing mass that is Atlas Shrugged, the famous novel by the right-wing and slightly disturbed philosopher/writer, Ayn Rand.

Or rather, it catalogues the many faces that Ayn Rand portrays throughout the 1,069 pages of what is said to be her masterpiece. You see, Ayn has a habit of using this literary device that, if there is a term for it, I'm sure literature students smirk at with all the self-affirmation and content they can muster*. It involves her describing facial expressions. I won't try to explain it, but you'll see what's going on soon enough from looking at the posts. What I will be doing in this blog is, every time I find one of these incredibly rich expressions, I'll take a photo of myself putting on the face as best I can, and upload it with the text that goes with it (and page number for reference). Simple.

I don't want it to seem like I'm ripping into the book too much. It's bad, but it does have it's moments. And while she's misguided and probably a bit of a psycho, she makes some interesting points, on occasion. But anyway, don't worry too much about what it all means, just come and explore the many faces of Ayn Rand.

Please note, there are one or two spoilers in this blog - sorry, couldn't really do some of the later posts without this. So if you're reading or planning to read Atlas Shrugged and don't want a big part of the plot given away, please don't read post 'Page 694' or any subsequent posts, until you've gotten a few pages into Part 3 of the book.

*I may have sort of used her device a little bit then. I guess it's a bit infectious. However, I kind of doubt there is a term for the device, cos I can't seriously imagine that any professional writer would actually use it...
